Miniature Sextant by Cary of London
Scarce diminutive pocket sextant in original case. 3 3/4″ by 4 ” silver graduated arc reading to 145 degrees, this instrument is also considered a Quintant. It appears to retain its original lacquer finish. Small perpendicular handle unscrews and fits beneath the sextant in its case.
Made by William Cary who trained under Jesse Ramsden and produced numerous scientific instruments including mechanical calculators, measuring instruments, telescopes, microscopes, navigation and survey equipment.
Extraordinary condition for its age. Circa 1800.
